Elidio Bar: A Mooca Institution Since 1959

Elidio Bar (Instagram) has been open for 60 years, located in the Zona Leste (East Side) of São Paulo, on Rua Isabel Dias, 57, in the Mooca neighborhood — a Brazilian food bar.
Founded in 1959 by Elidio Raimondi, it was the first bar in the area to offer a bar-snack counter with over a hundred and twenty options, plus a well-known, traditional feijoada served Wednesdays and Saturdays. Its founder passed away in 2012, but his daughters now run the business, keeping alive Elidio’s passion for football.
The draft beer is smooth and ice-cold, and the house also brews its own Elidio Bar Pilsen and Weizen (wheat) craft beers.
The setting
On the walls, you’ll find over 40 team jerseys, autographed by famous names — including Pelé himself — along with framed certificates, diplomas, and newspaper clippings that make up the bar’s laid-back decor.

Starter at Elidio Bar
First, we ordered the traditional meat croquette, which was simply wonderful, topped with bits of olive and grated parmesan.
Crispy on the outside and soft inside — we’d recommend ordering it before the feijoada. Unfortunately, we forgot to snap a photo.
Main course at Elidio Bar
Since it was Saturday, we ordered feijoada, one of our favorite dishes and a Wednesday-and-Saturday tradition for us.
The order comes with feijoada, torresmo, two pork chops, rice, farofa, calabresa sausage, fried cassava, hot sauce, couve, and orange.
The beans were nicely thick, not watery like some others we’ve had, though we didn’t find it especially flavorful — still worth trying, though.
Our rating: 3 out of 5.

Dessert
We ordered the condensed milk pudim, which I really liked, since I prefer less-sweet desserts.

Price
Between everything above, five draft beers, and one juice, we spent R$160 as a couple.
