Chocolate ice cream cone from Finlandês Sorvete Artesanal, Paraty

As we’ve mentioned before, Paraty is a culinary paradise, and downtown has several ice cream shops well worth trying. We visited three with great reviews to check out for ourselves and share our take, since I love ice cream. So here’s more on our tour of ice cream shops in Paraty’s historic center.

Finlandês Sorvete Artesanal

The shop’s name comes from the Finnish colony that settled in Penedo, where this same chain has another location. In fact, the ice cream cups even carry the colors of the Finnish flag, blue and white.

It’s a really pleasant spot, with delicious, beautifully presented ice cream. The service is exceptional — we loved how warmly we were welcomed, and we’d absolutely come back for more, with tables and chairs available both inside and outside the shop.

Among the more distinctive flavors, there’s the Finnish chocolate with nuts and the Jorge Amado, based on the local cocktail of the same name, both must-tries — plus fig with cognac and walnuts, and mascarpone with amarena cherry, their most popular flavor. Alongside the classic flavors, they also carry sugar-free, lactose-free, and gluten-free options.

In the end, I ordered a Belgian chocolate cone, which was delicious, and Andrey ordered leite ninho (condensed milk) with chocolate sauce on top, also in a cone.

There are other options too, like a coffee-and-ice-cream combo called an Affogato, for coffee lovers, petit gateau, and more. You can add hot or cold chocolate sauce, along with toppings. Pricing is per scoop. Price: R$28.

This ranks as our #1 pick among ice cream shops in Paraty’s historic center.

Miracolo Sorveteria

Of all three, this one has the largest space, easy to sit down and enjoy your ice cream in. We also liked the service — tables were spaced apart, and everything is made in-house, including the cone itself, which is really tasty.

The flavors stand out, especially for anyone who loves Kinder Ovo — that flavor of ice cream is delicious. I ordered Belgian chocolate and Kinder Ovo, and Andrey ordered white chocolate and raspberry, and we loved everything. Price: R$32, charged per scoop.

Sorveteria Pistache

A charming, small spot, with no tables or chairs inside — just two benches outside where you can sit and enjoy your ice cream. We didn’t notice anything especially distinctive here — the flavor is good, but it’s worth saving for last.

Pricing is by weight, and you can add toppings. We ordered chocolate and banana in a cone, and I really liked the banana, while Andrey went with leite ninho. Price: R$28.89.

They also have locations in Ubatuba, Maresias, Taubaté, Roseira, and Paraty.
